TOP 5 TIPS- for bathroom lighting design, by our f TOP 5 TIPS- for bathroom lighting design, by our founder Harriet Daniels-

✨ Layer decorative lighting over your architectural / task lighting.
Decorative lighting is there to provide visual interest, and also a sense of atmosphere and depth to a space. It’s not going to provide perfect light for, say, doing your make-up or shaving– task lighting will meet that need.

✨Always install with a dimmer.
So that you can enjoy a relaxing bath with soft lighting!

✨Know your bathroom zones.
You may not need specialist bathroom (IP-rated) lighting for certain areas of your bathroom. For example, either side of a vanity is often an area where any lighting can be used. This will widen the selection you can choose from.

✨Pick something with diffuse light.
Bare bulbs and glare are not fun first thing in the morning, they can create a jarring and almost clinical feel. Make sure that the lighting you select has a shade that is made of a material that will diffuse the light.

✨Make sure the lighting you select is made from non-ferrous materials
If you select something that is made out of brass or stainless steel you will enjoy longevity in a damp environment. Avoid lights which are marketed as “brass” but which are in fact mild steel with a brass-coloured coating – these may rust over time. If you want to check, bring a magnet with you when sourcing – the magnet will be attracted to mild steel but not to stainless or brass!

MADE IN BRITAIN - if you've followed us for a whil MADE IN BRITAIN - if you've followed us for a while, you'll know that Tigermoth lights are specified for beautiful interior projects all over the world.

But did you know that every single light in the Tigermoth collection starts its life in our workshop in England?

Designing and making in England is at the heart of our small business and we are all incredibly proud of the work we do. Our design team work closely alongside our workshop makers and this means we can tailor our designs to suit each project.

DETAILS MATTER - two very similar pendant lights, DETAILS MATTER - two very similar pendant lights, can you notice the difference?

Yes - one has Bronze metalwork and our "Leaf" detail whilst one has more golden Antique Brass metalwork and our "Deco" detail.

But also - the first light has a metal drop rod, whilst the second has fabric flex. These differences may seem subtle at first glance but if you're pulling together a professional interior design scheme this kind of thing really matters!

Our founder Harriet Daniels has the following advice for specifiers considering the Fabric Flex v. Drop Rod debate:

✨ Aesthetics - a metal drop rod will deliver a luxe polished finish to a space whilst fabric flex is softer and brings in more texture.
✨ Specification - drop rods are best delivered made to the exact length whereas fabric flex can be adjusted easily on site, so long as you specify a long enough cable. This means more planning at detailed design stage, and usually a CAD model of the space.
✨ Installation - for fabric flex, making sure that the installer gets the length spot on, for drop rods, making sure it's hanging dead straight!
✨ Use - neither really need much maintenance, but a bit of thought as to how the space they are in is used is helpful - fabric flex can actually be more robust in a high traffic space where knocks and bumps might happen.

Which do you prefer?

We are always happy to offer design advice to our trade account holders, and as we make all of our lighting right here in England we are able to tailor your piece to your exact requirements.
